Community Based Activities
We recognise that having opportunities to stay physically and mentally active and having the chance to catch up with others are greatly valued by very many older people in Highland.
We also recognise that joining in on group activities can play an important role in maintaining people skills and confidence and in reducing the social isolation which many find so difficult to deal with.
It is with this in mind that the Social Work Service in Highland has begun to put together a spreadsheet of current community-based activities for older people. Currently the information covers Inverness and its surrounding areas – but the plan is to develop the information to provide a comprehensive list of what’s going on for older people.
It is believed that providing older people and Carers with this sort of information can increase access to the activities which help sustain community living for longer. Some of the activities listed can also act as robust alternatives to formal service provision.
It represents a great deal of work on the part of Kate (CDO) who has had to find out about, and get contact details for, all the 138 groups listed.
The spreadsheet has filters on it to allow you to search for activities by district, locality and type of activity; it also contains contact info for each of the groups. But if you just want to talk community-based activities Kate Maclean would welcome a call on 01463 704 104
